Italy was an absolute dream vacation, and I’ll tell you why: Gelato, Pasta, Siestas in the afternoon, not in any particular order. We didn’t over schedule our days with sites to see but rather focused on 1-2 things a day. When you don’t feel rushed, stressed, or burdened by plans, you end up doing more than you thought possible. Our first stop was Rome, followed by the Island of Ischia and then a week in Tuscany.

In Rome we stayed at this Airbnb in the Trastevere neighborhood. This, in my opinion, is the best area in Rome because it quiet and residential yet still central and buzzing. All the major sites are within walking distance but the neighborhood feels secluded and romantic with the winding alleyways, cobblestone streets, and cute family-owned restaurants.

We went to the Campo de Fiori Market (a one minute walk from our place) for breakfast and had cappuccino’s and cannolis and at a local spot on our way out to adventure.

Marcos found a hole in the wall place that we went to everyday, sometimes 3 times a day, for espresso. I can always count on him to find a real-deal non-fancy/touristy spot that delivers.

At night we had long dinners followed by gelato and walking the old town. Our favorite place for dinner was Trattoria Da Sergio All Grotte a family run place, filled with locals. Our favorite spot for gelato was the Frigidarium because their gelato is creamy perfection and made from natural ingredients.

We saw some of the major sites and stumbled upon others, like the Pantheon, during our walks. I love that about Rome, you just stumble upon ancient landmarks.

Our days in Rome were dreamy. Tomorrow, Ill let you know about our stay on the Island of Ischia.

Some tips: Uber accounts work in Rome. We bought Italian SIM cards to make communication easy, and the google translate app is like magic.
